Happy Monday,
Take home folders are stuffed today. Please be sure to look in their folders tonight. Students are coming home with their first homework packet; it is titled The Fox and Kit. The front page has their spelling words- please practice these nightly. Then there are two Every Day Math Home Links. The directions are at the top. The homework packet is due back on Friday. You may keep the cover page for your reference, but both Home Links should be turned in Friday (even if they finish early, please turn it in on Friday). Students are also bringing home October's Scholastic Book Club. I am sending this one home now so that if you would like books, they will be in before the end of the month. There are SO many good books this month! Book orders will be due 10/11/17. The BEST way to order is online using our unique code: GZV3K. You will also find information on how to use ST Math at home! Please read this over and if possible, let students enjoy ST Math at home, too! If you have not signed up for a Parent/Teacher Conferece, please do so by the end of the week! Thank you for signing up for a Parent Teacher Conferences. Here are a few things to remember when scheduling your appointment: 1. Please pick a time that you can attend. Time is very limited (only 10 minute conferences) - please be sure you are able to arrive on time. Only pick one slot please. 2. If you are late, we will have to reschedule for a phone conference at another time. 3. If you are scheduling a conference for more than one student at Willett, please be sure to factor in travel time. Do not schedule back to back conferences with different teachers. 4. If the designated Parent Teacher Conference times do not work for your schedule, please email me and we will set a phone conference for another time. Thank you, Mrs. Bower The link to sign up for a conference is: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/4090B4FADA823AAF49-november1 Happy Monday,
I hope everyone had a great weekend! It was so nice to see so many families at Mix, Move, and Mingle! It was an awesome PTO event and I hope you were able to enjoy it as much as I did! :) Tomorrow night (Tuesday, 9/26) is Welcome Back Night here at Willett. Please come visit between 6-8pm tomorrow night. I will be starting my presentation at 6:25pm per Mr. Cateon's email. Please try your hardest to be on time for that. I will be going over a lot of important classroom information. Children are allowed to attend, but must be under your supervision the entire time -- i.e. if you are going to visit an older/younger child's classroom, you must bring your first grader as well. Today children are participating in "A Walk Through the Willett Way." We will be visiting different areas of the school and discussing how to follow the Willett Way in each area. Students will be bringing a blue note home today that goes over the expectations on the back. Please talk to your child about his/her experience today. Our phonics skills this week are: short o and adding -s to the end of a word to make it plural. Our spelling words are: ox, pop, lock, mop, pot, hop, hot, rock, mom, got, use, help. Our sight words are: help, use, get. This week in Math we will continue with counting strategies and number stories. We will take our Unit 1 Assessment on Thursday and Friday of this week. I'll end with my weekly reminder to please send your student in with a water bottle and snack daily. As you will most likely notice tomorrow night, our classroom is very hot/humid. Students are encouraged to drink water throughout the day. I hope to see you tomorrow night, Mrs. Bower If your child came to Willett last year, you might already know about how much students love ST Math! Well, today we started our password training for ST Math! Comments heard while students were learning their passwords were, "I love ST MATH!" "I am so good at this!" "This makes me smart in Math!" I love seeing their excitement with ST Math!! :)
Today during centers students were able to use the iPads to do a word sort, whisper phones for fluency practice, a game called "Pig is Sick" for short i practice, and a Nonsense word practice game. :)
Good Afternoon,
Happy Monday! Students are coming home with their new (beautiful) Willett folders. Please be sure to return these folders each day so important information can come home daily. In it today, every child is bringing home a behavior chart. This is something I will discuss at Welcome Back Night, but in short, students color in what color they landed on each day for you to see. The behavior chart is returned to school the next morning. Behavior charts stay home Friday after school and students will receive a new one on Monday. Please review your child's chart with him/her each night and be sure it is returned for the next day. This week we are discussing Animal Fantasy with the story Pig in a Wig. Students are also focusing on the short i sound and final x sound. We use ECRI and Lively Letters to help reinforce our phonics skills of the week. We will be attempting Reading Centers this week! In Math we are focusing on Counting Strategies and using Math Tools. Students have played Monster Squeeze, Top It, and a few other games in Math. We LOVE our Math games. Be sure to check out Everyday Math online with the login information that came home last week! Many parents turned in the Whale Wishes! The hallway by the office looks great covered in welcome notes to students! Many have also turned in the $6 for Scholastic News! Thank you!!! The Scholastic News money will be collected until 9/26. Friday is Mix, Move, and Mingle night here at Willett! I hope to see you there. :) Please be sure to attend Welcome Back Night here at Willett on Tuesday, 9/26. Each grade will be assigned a presentation time (this information will be sent home soon). First grade teachers will be presenting, in their classrooms, from 6:25pm - 6:40pm - please try to be here for my 6:25pm presentation. I will be sure to start at 6:25pm so those who have to go to another grade level's presentation can make it on time. Have a great week, Mrs. Bower Hello,
Some children are receiving forms in their backpacks to be signed/returned. These are forms that were sent home on the first day of school that did not come back. Please return these tomorrow. Tomorrow is a half day. Doors do not open until 8:30am. Dismissal is at 12:25. If your child is going home a different way, please be sure to send a note in. Lunch is not served tomorrow. Please be sure to send an extra snack in tomorrow with your child. Please also send in a water bottle with your child. Homework does not start until October. Many children have asked for homework.
