What an exciting morning. It started with getting our new Feinstein sweatshirts and then we went right to our first Willett Way Community Gathering. Many of our students were recognized for leadership behavior.
Great work Evan, Lorenzo, Aanjeya, Ella, and Emiya! Lorenzo and Evan were even picked from the pick-a-ticket to have lunch with Mr. Cateon and a new book. :) I am so proud of all of my students! Great work!!!! This post is from Wednesday but it didn't post the first few times! Each first grade classroom received 3 new iPads! Mr. Steinberg spent this morning showing students the app Chatterpix which allows students to take a picture of an object, add a mouth, and then add a voice to the character! Students loved giving Sam the Cat and The Big Blue Ox a voice!
Thank you to Mrs. Dooley for letting us borrow two iPads and to Mr. Steinberg for being a superstar! Good Evening,
I hope everyone had a fun and safe weekend! Carly enjoyed trick or treating with her cousin JR. We also spent time with our family who was visiting from New Jersey. :) I hope everyone is adjusting to "falling back" an hour due to daylight savings. Carly did not get the memo that we should get an extra hour of sleep- not hours less of sleep! Gym is on Tuesday! Please be sure to send your student in wearing sneakers. Also, MANY students forgot to return their library books on Friday. Please be sure to send your child in with his/her library book every Friday. It is a great habit to put your student's homework and library book in his/her backpack on Thursday night. Monday will be Book Fair make-up day. It will be the last day for the book fair. If you would like to have your child purchase a book, please send in money in an enveloped labeled with the child's name and book fair so we know that is what the money is for. Last week many important notices went home. First, we sent home information about our Military Care Package Drive! Willett is collecting various items through the month of November to ship off to soliders overseas. Items can be sent in with your student and we will place it in the appropriate bins! We also sent home information on a bulletin board that Willett is creating to honor active and retired members of the military. Please send me contact information of members of the military who are in your family! We are placing this information on stars that will be (and already are) on the bulletin board outside of the office. Please be sure to check it out when you come in for Parent Teacher Confereces! Speaking of Parent Teacher Conferences... notices went home on your date/time last week. Many families have already signed and returned these forms. Thank you!!!! Please be sure you send it in by tomorrow if you have not done so already. Conferences are only 10 minutes long, but should we feel more time is needed we will make another meeting (at a different date/time) to continue. I look forward to meeting with you. Due to afternoon conferences, Wednesday, November 4th is a half day. As a reminder, school starts later (8:45) and ends earlier (12:30). Lunch is not served on half days so please be sure to send your child in with an extra snack. Wednesday (11/4) is also a spirit day sponsored by the PTO. For $1 students may wear school appropriate pajamas to school. Please be sure to leave slippers at home. We have finished Unit 1 of Reading Street. Starting Monday all the way until Thanksgiving Break we will be focusing on an Animal Habitats Unit during our ELA block. This means we will not have homework packets during this time. Instead, students will be sent home with a Reading Log to complete nightly. This also means we will not have Spelling Words/Tests during this time. Students will be doing a lot of research and projects within school for this unit. We will also do some writing on what our favorite story in Unit 1 was. This will be our very first Opinion Writing Piece! :) In Math we are continuing to stregthen our number stories strategies. Students are doing a great job including a picture to show how they solved the problem, a number model, and the unit! I am so impressed with their work! See you this week! |
