I hope everyone had a great weekend! The weather was absolutely beautiful. Carly is starting to feel better from her ear infection, so we went apple and pumpkin picking this weekend. She loved running around the orchid! I know many students also went apple picking this weekend! Did you make anything delicious with your apples? We made apple crisp!
It was so nice seeing so many families at Curriculum Night on Thursday. I know I was rushing through the presentation for the 6:45 deadline, so if you have any questions, please let me know. Many of you signed up for REMIND! :) Yahoo!
Tomorrow our Special is Gym. Please be sure to send students in with sneakers.
This week we will start Unit 1 of our Reading Street program. The story we will read is titled, Sam, Come Back! We will learn all about the short a sound and final -ck. We will have a spelling pre-test on Monday and then a spelling test on Friday. I will send our spelling list home tomorrow with students, but be sure to also check out our Spelling City site (you can find this through our classroom website).
In Math we will focus on tally marks and skip counting. We will also play Rock, Paper, Scissors to record data. We will start our Explorations where we get to explore some math tools: base-10 blocks, geoboards, and pattern blocks.
In Writing we will start discussing the format of a sentence. Each sentence should have a who and a what. Sentences also should always start with a capital and end with an ending mark. This is something we work very hard on in first grade.
It finally appears that the temperatures might actually be cooler this week in the classroom! Wahoo! Please still send students in with a water bottle.
Germs are everywhere... especially in our classroom! Please be sure to remind students to use their sneeze and cough catchers, keep their fingers out of their mouths/noses, and to wash their hands frequently! We clean our table tops twice a week with the cleaning supplies families have sent in.
Thank you for all your support. I look forward to a great year!
:)
