I am so proud of Room 101 for their hardwork during the Read-a-thon. We raised a lot of money for Technology for our school and I cannot wait to hear the total amount raised! Our class alone raised over $400, I believe! GREAT WORK!
Speaking of reading... this Wednesday is my all time favorite spirit day! It is Read Across America Day, which is Dr. Seuss's birthday... Thus on Wednesday, March 2nd it is BOOK CHARACTER DAY at Willett! Students and staff should dress as their favorite BOOK character on Wednesday to participate in our school-wide spirit day! We will have a school assembly to show off all the amazing characters at Willett. Don't worry, I will take lots of pictures for our classroom website!
This week will be so much fun with the spirit day on Wednesday, but we will spend a lot of time learning too! Our read alouds this week will all be from Dr. Seuss. We will also learn all about his life. During this week and next week we will be responding to Dr. Seuss books in writing. For example, "What would you do if the Cat in the Hat came to your house?" I think I would sound a lot like the fish in the pot!
In Reading we will read Frog and Toad Together. I just LOVE Frog and Toad books! Through this story and our spelling words, we will focus on the endings -ed and -ing as well as r-controlled ar.... like Carly! We will also discuss the plot of the story as well as work on visualizing.
In Math we will continue building fact fluency by practicing near-doubles strategies and how to make 10. Students should practice addition and subtraction facts at home to help increase their fluency in addition and subtraction.
Our specials schedule for this week is the following:
Monday: Gym
Tuesday: Gym
Wednesday: Technology
Thursday: Music
Friday: Art
Please remember to send your student in with sneakers on Monday and Tuesday and their library books on Friday.
Have a great week!
