Our Maps Unit is done! Students will bring home their Maps Folders tomorrow! :)
Hello,
This is just a reminder that report cards will be sent home tomorrow with students. Please review the report card and sign the envelope. The only thing that needs to be returned to me on Thursday is the signed envelope. You keep the report card. Also, Scholastic Book Orders are due tomorrow. Please have all orders in by 11am as that is when I plan on submitting the order to Scholastic. There is still time to order by following the steps below:
:) Mrs. Bower I hope everyone had a great weekend! I enjoyed some quality time with my family and Carly had her very first swim class today. It was a great weekend! :)
This week we only have one day of a schedule change due to PARCC and that is Monday (tomorrow). Our Special (Music) will be at 10:15am and our recess will be at 2pm. Then on Friday we will have a schedule change as it is a half day (previously scheduled day off). Lunch is not served on half days, so please feel free to send your student in with an extra snack. Please still have students return their library books on Friday. Last Friday we almost had a 100% return rate!! I'm hoping we can this Friday! Our story of the week this week is Mama's Birthday Present. We will have our traditional homework packet that will go home tomorrow. We will also have spelling words that will be assessed on Friday. Please be sure to study those words at home. :) In Math we will work on telling time to the hour and continue with adding two digit numbers. Ecourage your student to look at an analog clock and discuss what "o'clock" means at home! :) We will finally finish up our Social Studies Unit on Maps! Students will complete their "Me on a Map" flipbook and bring that home this week-- we are almost done! :) While working on our caterpillar diaries, we used an app called Booksy. It's a free app that has some free books on it. There are in-app purchases for additional book as well if you are interested. However, many students loved seeing books on the iPad. A few students asked me to write down the app's name so they could download it at home so I figured I would email it along. Your student might have came home this past week and mentioned a new name in our classroom. Mrs. Campbell started last Monday. She is covering Mrs. Kirshner's maternity leave, which started last week. Mrs. Campbell is in our room everyday for Math, just as Mrs. Kirshner was. Book orders are due on April 1st! If you would like to order books from the Scholastic Reading Club, please have your order in by April 1st. Any orders after April 1st will not be submitted until our next book order, which will be after April Vacation. I hope everyone has a great week! :) Mrs. Bower Shop Online: scholastic.com/readingclub
One-Time Class Activation Code: GZV3K Dear Families, This is a reminder that book orders are due in 1 week! We already have a few parents who have submitted their orders online! Yahoo! You can shop and submit your order online or return the printed order form with payment directly to me that was distributed last week. No matter how you order, every purchase you make helps earn points to get FREE Books and educational supplies for our classroom. If you would like to order books for your student, please submit book orders before Wednesday, April 1st. Ordering online is fast and easy:
The arrival of the book box is always a highlight! Thank you for making it happen! Students love to see the big white and red box arrive in our classroom and are eager for books to be distributed to students who have ordered! Happy Reading, Mrs. Bower Happy Monday,
The yellow sheet that went home with our PARCC schedule was a bit off. Correct information will come out soon. Also during PARCC recess will be indoors as the playground and hardtop is next to the testing rooms. This week is our off week of Reading Street. We will be focusing on writing in the point of view of a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly and what our favorite story of Unit 3 was. We will also continue our Maps Unit. In Math, we will be taking assessments all week. Today and tomorrow is an Open Response like assessment including two-digit numbers, Wednesday and Thursday will be the Unit 5 assessment. The homework packet will look different this week. It will include a reading log, math sheet, and a page where students draw a map of their bedroom. There will not be a story of the week or spelling test this week. I hope everyone has a great week! :) Mrs. Bower We had a great day in Room 101! A magical leprechaun came and left us math games for the afternoon! It was a blast! I hope everyone had a great weekend! :)
We will be working hard this week on: discussing how seasons change, maps, suffixes "er" and "est", adding two-digit numbers, place value, and greater than and less than.Homework packets are being sent home today. The title page is Where are My Animal Friends? As always, this packet is due on Friday. Each Friday we seem to have more and more friends forgetting to retuern their library books. We have books that are months overdue. Please be sure your student is returning his/her library book each Friday. This is not only to be sure he/she could get a new book, but also it shows that he/she is a part of the Willett Community by allowing other students to check that book out once it is returned. Later this week, students will be bringing home a letter about upcoming schedule changes for First Grade due to the upper grades taking PARCC. I've included the letter below as I discussed this with students this morning and may come home talking about our changes (or have some confusion about our changes). Have a great week, Mrs. Bower First Grade Schedule During PARCC Even though the first grade does not take the PARCC assessment, our specials and recess schedule is impacted so that our third and fourth grade friends still get specials once they are done testing for the day. Thus, during the third and fourth grade testing dates, the time of our special will change (the actual special will not) and on certain days our recess time will change as well. Please see the dates below that our time of special is changed: March 23: Special begins at 10:15; Recess begins at 2:00pm March 24: Special begins at 8:20 March 25: Special begins at 10:15; Recess begins at 2:00pm March 26: Special begins at 8:20 March 27: Special begins at 10:15; Recess begins at 2:00pm March 30: Special begins at 8:20 April 6: Special begins at 10:15; Recess begins at 2:00pm April 7: Special begins at 8:20 April 8: Special begins at 10:15; Recess begins at 2:00pm April 9: Special begins at 8:20 Please be sure students arrive on time during the days that we start special at 8:20am, otherwise students may miss part of the class’s instruction. If you have any questions, please let your child’s classroom teacher know. Thank you, The First Grade Team Finally some warm sunshine! Students are loving outdoor recess again! It has been too long since we have been able to go outside. Currently students are only allowed on the hardtop as the playground is still covered in snow. Thus, space is limited for four classrooms to be on the hardtop at once, but we are managing because it is worth it! :)
This week we are working hard on using maps, learning about life cycles of plants and animals (especially with our story of the week I'm a Caterpillar), and creating number scrolls. There is so much learning going on in our classroom! Our brains are working extra hard! :) Be sure to check out the Spelling City website to practice our spelling words!! Tonight is Parent Teacher Conferences for those who received a time. As conference times are limited, I appreciate those returning the notices confirming they will come. The PTO Spring Dance is this Friday, 3/13 from 5:30-6:30. Tickets are going home today with those students who purchased tickets. Please check your student's take home folder for the envelope with the tickets! :) During the weeks of March 23-April 9th our specials time will be different due to the 3rd and 4th grade taking the PARCC assessment. We will have Specials at 8:20am on most days. Please be sure your student is at school on time. I will send a complete schedule closer to the dates for your reference. BOKS Kids! Please remember to eat your snack in the cafeteria before coming up to the classroom in the morning. :) Have a great week! :) We had such a great Book Character Day today! We enjoyed the parade and assembly in the gym! It was a quick day with the delay so a lot of our Dr. Seuss activities will trickle into the rest of the week as well. :) Students are bringing home their homework packets for the week. This week we are reading Frog and Toad. We will talk all about "ar" words -- like my favorite ar word... Carly! ;) Speaking of Carly... she was also dressed up for Dr. Seuss's birthday! She proudly wore her The Cat in the Hat onesie to daycare! :)
I hope everyone has a great week!! :) |
