Hello,
I hope everyone had a nice week. The weather was absolutely beautiful! A few reminders about this week: *Wednesday 4/26: Book orders are due! The best way to order is online using our code GZV3K *Thursday 4/27: Career Day Spirit Day & Library *Friday 4/28: Half day! For the next two weeks we will be focusing on Folktales, specifically "The Fox's Foray." Students will compare and contrast different versions of this folktale and others. Today we played the game "Telephone" to show how even simple phrases can change when passed on from person to person, so complete stories may have changed as well! Even though we will not read a story in our Reading Street anthology this week and next week, we will still have spelling words and a spelling test. Students will have a homework packet this week, but will not have a homework packet next week as May 1-5 is the PTO Screen Free fundraiser! (Information went home before vacation). We will be starting Unit 8 in Math this week! There are only a few units left... we certainly are coming to the end of the year! In Science, we will begin planting in our classroom. These plants will then be put into our garden once they are ready. Please be sure to send your student in with a snack and water bottle every day. This is just a reminder that we have Gym on Thursdays and Fridays. Please be sure students are wearing sneakers. If your student still struggles with tying his/her own shoe, please please please practice at home. Students should be tying their own shoes at this point in the year. Have a great week, Mrs. Bower Hello Families of Room 101,
I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend! It was so nice to see the sun again. It is supposed to be pretty warm for the next few days so please be sure to dress students appropriately. It will be very warm in the classroom as well, so it is a good idea to send students in with a water bottle every day this week. This week is a short week. We do not have school on Friday and then April Vacation begins. Please continue to read with your student every night over vacation to keep their reading skills fresh! :) We will be reading Peter's Chair. This story is one that many older brothers and sisters relate to as it is about a boy whose parents have a new baby. Peter has to get used to his younger sister using his baby things. This story reminds me a lot of Carly when we brought Benjamin home. Carly was not thrilled to have a baby brother for the first week or so, but quickly changed her mind when she realized how fun it is to have a baby brother... he's like her very own life sized doll! ;) Our phonics skill this week is compound words, Thus, our spelling words will be compound words. Our spelling words are: backpack, outside, baseball, herself, flashlight, bluebird, lunchbox, suitcase, inside, brainstorm, picture, remember. Our bonus words are: sunshine, dragonfly. We will continue Unit 7 this week in Math. Students really seem to enjoy "What's my Rule?" and function machines! I love seeing their faces when they guess the rule correctly! :) Our Scholastic Book Orders are due on Wednesday, April 12th. I will be submitting the orders by 9:30 on 4/12. If you would like to place an order, please do so before 9:30 on 4/12. The best, and easiest, way to order books is through the Scholastic Book Club website. Please be sure to use our classroom code GZV3K to ensure your child gets his/her book. The April books will come in after April Vacation. The March book order came in today and I will be handing those books out today to the students who purchased. Have a great week, Mrs. Bower |
