Here are some pictures of Carly before we went to her Grammy and Grampy's house!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Carly is still sick, so we had to have a last minute change of plans and have a much smaller Thanksgiving with just my immediate family (instead of traveling to Dracut to see my very large extended family).

Today was such a great day. It started off by reading a Thanksgiving poem with our fourth grade buddies and creating a bracelet to go with it. Did your student show you his/her bracelet? Then later in the day we enjoyed our First Grade Feast! Students did a great job on their turkey disguises!! I loved seeing all the creative ideas. Here are a few: Great work! :) I hope you had fun disguising your turkey! Regular homework packets are being sent home today. Students have spelling words for their spelling test on Friday. Our two bonus words are Mayflower and thankful-- two words we will be using a lot of this week and next week! :)
Please be sure to return the permission slip about the field trip as well as the form about the feast if you plan on sending in donations. Thank you to Mrs. Gray and Mrs. Amaral for volunteering to help set up and take down the feast! :) The feast would not be possible if it wasn't for the donations and parent volunteers! With that being said, we are also still looking for chaperones for our walking field trip who already have a CORI on file. Please let me know if you would like to attend if you are all set with a CORI check. Next week is a short week. Wednesday (11/26) is a half day. There's no school Thursday (11/27) and Friday (11/28)! I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving! If you plan on attending the fantastic K-1 Polar Express Reading Night on December 12th - please return the form ASAP so we have a proper head count. If you need another form, please let me know and I will get you one. It will be a fun filled night where students will listen to the story The Polar Express from a super special guest reader. Students will also enjoy crafts and refreshments! Parents must stay with their child- but it is a family friendly night! Don't forget your pajamas! Carly and I will be wearing ours! :) Have a great week! Students are coming home with two important notices that need to be signed and returned as soon as possible.
One item is a field trip permission slip for our Community Walking field trip. The field trip is 11/24. If you would like to chaperone this walking field trip, please indicate so on the slip. Please keep in mind that you must already have a CORI on file. The other note home is about the first grade feast. If you would like to donate an item, please check off the item or items and send the form into me so I know what we will have and what we will still need. Please do not send in food items until the 18th due to storage purposes. Not listed on the form is also plastic/paper cups. If you would like to send those in, please indicate so on the form. As always, we appreciate any item that you can donate in order to make this special first grade event a success. Next week we return to our regular homework packets. We will have spelling words, etc. A spelling and reading test will happen on Friday so please be sure your student is practicing his/her spelling words. The reading test is always on the story that is in the homework packet (the story we discuss/read all week). The Turkey Disguise is due on Thursday, 11/20! Scroll down to see clever examples! Thank you so much for all that you do with your student. I know there has been many projects, different homework assignments, etc. However, everything thing you do with your student helps him/her be a better first grade learner! :) Have a wonderful weekend! Our first grade feast will be Thursday, November 20th. Students will be bringing home a note tomorrow about what donations are needed. The note asks you to donate what has been checked off, however I am not checking a specific item off per student. Instead, if you would like to donate an item or items to our feast, please check it off on the form and send it back to me. I did not want to choose what was asked of families to be turned in.
I appreciate anything you are able to donate that is on that list. Please do not steer away from the list as these items have been approved by the school. Thank you, Mrs. Bower Items on the list to be donated:
I am so proud of all of my students! We did an excellent job at our Pick a Pet Expo. We presented our pets to the 4th graders, who were so kind and courteous to us! :)
Students are coming home with another project. This one will be done at home. We read the story Turkey Trouble where Tom the Turkey disguises himself so Farmer Brown does not recognize him allowing Tom to survive another Thanksgiving! Students have been given a letter from Tom the Turkey and a picture of Tom the Turkey. Students will have to create a new and creative disguise for Tom so Farmer Brown does not recognize him. Students are encouraged to get creative and use construction paper, glue, glitter, or any material to make Tom look different! You can google "Turkey in Disguise Project" to get some ideas. Here are a few I found on google images: I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend! My family traveled to New Jersey for my nephew's first birthday party. It was Carly's first road trip- but she did great! :) The weather was great these past two days-- perfect for playing outside!
Since this week is a short week, we will not have a traditional homework packet (again). Instead, students will have a double sided worksheet and a short reading log. Please make sure students turn in their Pick a Pet CEPA projects tomorrow. Their representations of their pet (stuffed animal, picture, poster, whatever they chose to use...) should be sent in no later than Thursday as that is the day we will be presenting our projects! :) Thanksgiving break is approaching quickly. Between now and Thanksgiving first grade has a lot going on. We will have a community (walking) field trip coming up as well as a first grade feast. Please look for information that will be coming home soon about these events. We will be looking for volunteers for both... as well as specific donations for the feast. My calendar is at school, but I believe the feast is the Thursday before Thanksgiving, and the walking field trip is the Monday before Thanksgiving. To volunteer for either or both of these events, please be sure you already have a CORI on file with the office.... remember CORIs expire, so you must check with the office if you are all set prior to the trip. A CORI can take 3 weeks, so please be sure to check ASAP if you would like to volunteer! :) If you have any questions, please let me know. As always, thank you for your support. Students are bringing home a packet that goes over our new report card. It has a sample (second grade) report card so you can see the new format. It also has what the new grades mean (we are now numerical) as what students are graded on. I did give a few families this yesterday, but missed some last night so I figured I would put it in folders today. :)
Students are also coming home with a notice about K-1 Reading Night! It is on Dec. 12 from 6-8pm! This year we will be reading The Polar Express! Please be sure to RSVP! I hope to see you there... in your pajamas! Also, the Willett Food Drive is underway! Students can bring in non-perishable food items to donate to the food drive! Homework is due tomorrow. Please be sure your student's name is on it! There's the homework packet and the double sided math worksheet. Next week we will only have a reading log and math page since it is a very short week as there is no school on Monday and Tuesday. That means another week without a spelling or reading test (I'm sure the students are disappointed- haha). Thank you to all the families who showed up for conferences yesterday! I look forward to meeting with more families tonight! The Book Fair is open during conferences. It is also open tomorrow (Friday) night from 6-8pm! :) There's a lot going on this month... here are some reminders~
* November 5th is a HALF DAY. Please remember students start later on half days and are dismissed early. -We also have BOOK FAIR on the 5th from 10:15-11am. If you would like to volunteer to help during our slot, please contact Julie Santos with the PTO. *November 5-6: Parent Teacher Conferences. If you need a reminder of the date/time, please let me know. *November 7th HW is due. This week's homework is a double sided math worksheet and our PICK A PET packet! :) I went over this with students this morning. There will not be a spelling or reading test this week! *November 10-11th: No School! *November 26th: Half Day *November 27-28th: No School! I sent a note home with students today about this website and posting pictures/student work. Please review it and return it. Thank you! We had a great week this past week. Yesterday students voted for Student Council! I can't wait to find out who won on November 7th! I am so proud of all 5 students who ran for student council! Your speeches were wonderful! Great work! We continue to love our GoNoodle brain breaks. Check out the picture below of students doing one of our favorites! Conferences are coming up this week. All families have confirmed their times! Thank you! Please remember to be on time as each conference is unfortunately only 10 minutes long. I hope everyone who went out last night had a great and safe night. My family enjoyed visiting my parents' house, Carly's great-grandmother's house, and Carly's great-Aunt and Uncle's house. :) Carly and I both dressed as cats! :) |
