Yesterday we took advantage of the beautiful weather to get outside and plant our peas and tomatoes into Willett's Garden. These plants have been growing for the past few weeks in our classroom and were finally ready to go into the garden.
We will continue to observe the growing garden as the Spring continues. A special thank you to Mrs. Ferney for coming out and planting with us! Hello,
I would like to begin my weekly update with the sincerest thank you to all those families who sent in kind notes, flowers, and special treats this week during Teacher Appreciation Week. I absolutely love my job mainly because I love your children. I am lucky to wake up each day and come to a school I love surrounded by some fantastic coworkers, students, and families. So thank you, thank you, thank you! :) Your support has been felt all school year, not just this past week. This week we will go back to our regular schedule. 4th grade will be taking PARCC this week, but they will be switching their schedules with another grade. Our schedule will only be impacted during 3rd grade PARCC. Students have been doing a fantastic job dealing with our schedule change and respecting those who are taking the test by being quiet in the halls, at lunch, and in other shared spaces. I am so proud of them! It is not an easy task for 6 and 7 year olds... but they are doing fantastic. Another teacher even came up to me after I dropped the students off at lunch commenting on how our line is always so quiet and asking me for tips! I told her that it is all the kids! They are such a respectful and caring group! Academics this week...
I hope everyone has a great week! :) Mrs. Bower Students will be coming home with their permission slips for our June 8th field trip to Capron Park Zoo! If possible, please sign and return these by Thursday as I am out Friday.
Some Information About the Field Trip:
Thank you, Kelsey Bower Good Evening,
This week will be an interesting one for students as our schedule will be very different. PARCC will be starting this week for third grade (and continue throughout the month of May). Due to the assessment schedule, our weekly routines/schedule will be a bit off. For instance, our Specials' time, which is normal at 1:48pm, will be at 10:00am this week. While we will keep to our normal A-E schedule, instead of going to the Computer Lab for Technology class, students will join Mr. Silver (and Mrs. Croake, Mr. Steinberg's substitute teacher) in the Gym. The Computer Lab will be used for PARCC testing. Thus, we will have Gym on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week. Our Technology/Gym time on Friday will interfere will Library. I will work on getting a new time for us to check out new books this week and will keep you updated. Our lunch and recess time will remain the same (11:15 for lunch, 11:35 for recess). I have to give a huge THANK YOU to Mrs. Buckley, Mrs. Friess, Mrs. Vivar, and Mrs. Withers for coming in last week to help us with our Willett Beautification Project and planting flowers in the front of Willett!! You were all such a HUGE help! I hope families were able to check out pictures on our classroom website and Mr. Cateon even put some up on Willett's Facebook page! Our story of the week this week will be Peter's Chair. It is all about a little boy who needs to adjust to having a baby sister. It is a cute (and relatable for many) story! Now that we have had a great stretch of beautiful Spring weather, we will begin writing about Spring using our five senses. Students will use a graphic organizer to plan their writing and then write a rough draft. :) We will continue with Unit 8 for Math. Students have enjoyed learning about Fractions and love our Fractional Connect Four game! We might have played it several times last week during Math Games! Next week we will start a DESE unit on Light and Shadow! This is a unit I am working very closely on with Mr. Steinberg and teachers from other districts to include computational thinking... and more technology! I am just finishing up some final tweaks before we get started. I hope everyone has a great week! :) Mrs. Bower |
