I would like to begin my weekly update with the sincerest thank you to all those families who sent in kind notes, flowers, and special treats this week during Teacher Appreciation Week. I absolutely love my job mainly because I love your children. I am lucky to wake up each day and come to a school I love surrounded by some fantastic coworkers, students, and families. So thank you, thank you, thank you! :) Your support has been felt all school year, not just this past week.
This week we will go back to our regular schedule. 4th grade will be taking PARCC this week, but they will be switching their schedules with another grade. Our schedule will only be impacted during 3rd grade PARCC. Students have been doing a fantastic job dealing with our schedule change and respecting those who are taking the test by being quiet in the halls, at lunch, and in other shared spaces. I am so proud of them! It is not an easy task for 6 and 7 year olds... but they are doing fantastic. Another teacher even came up to me after I dropped the students off at lunch commenting on how our line is always so quiet and asking me for tips! I told her that it is all the kids! They are such a respectful and caring group!
Academics this week...
- Reading: We will be reading Henry and Mudge and Mrs. Hopper's House. We will focus on Cause and Effect in a story -- i.e. I fell because I tripped over a shoe. We will look for clue words to help us identify cause/effect in stories. We will also work on words that have the phonics skills of: suffixes -ly, -ful, and the vowel sound in "moon."
- Writing: This week we will get to the writing I said we were going to do last week -- we will write about the season of Spring. We did not get to it last week due to our many Special Women projects!
- Math: We will continue with Unit 8 of Everydath Math which focuses on Geometry!
- Science: We will begin our Light and Shadow unit next week as I am still gathering up a few more materials! :)
- Monday: Music
- Tuesday: Art
- Wednesday: Gym
- Thursday: Technology*
- Friday: Technology*
*Our Technology schedule was off due to PARCC last week. If all goes well with PARCC this week, we should see Mr. Steinberg in the afternoon... the students have been missing him!
I hope everyone has a great week!
