Today Mrs. Ferney came in to our room to work on the life cycle of a butterfly. We wrote sentences and used pasta to show what we know! Students did a great job. Mrs. Ferney was very impressed. :)
When we came in this morning we have three chyrsalides and two caterpillars. One of the caterpillars was hanging upside down ready to go into his chrysalis so I projected the cup on our screen. We were able to see the caterpillar go into the chrysalis! It was amazing. We are just waiting for our last one!
Hello,
I hope everyone enjoyed the extra long weekend. Carly went to her first Music Together class and LOVED it. Your student might have told you all about Carly's sweet dance moves, which she obviously got from me! I feel like I haven't seen the students in forever! I cannot wait to see them tomorrow morning. I am excited for their hugs and stories. I have missed them so so much! I was truly disappointed when I heard about the snow day! This week we will not have a homework packet or spelling words. We have finished Unit 3 and will be working on writing about what our favorite story from Unit 3 was. We will also be working on our CEPA for Unit 3 where students will write in the point of view of a caterpillar! Students will write about what it is like to go through the life cycle stages. Tomorrow we will do a fun Life Cycle of a Butterfly craft with Mrs. Ferney's help to kick start our short week of continued caterpillar and butterfly learning! In Math we will continue to strengthen our addition and subtraction fluency by working on addition and subtraction strategies. We will also focus on Attributes of Shapes! During the STEM Collaboration I attended on Thursday and Friday, I was able to work with the DESE and teachers from all over MA to focus on adding STEM into the classroom. In April, our class will be using a DESE Model Curriculum Unit on Light and Shadow and add computational thinking and technology into this unit. I am very excited about it! (However, I did miss the students terribly.) Wednesday is our special Read-a-thon assembly. Mr. Cateon has asked for our class to wear our PATRIOTS or Red, White, and Blue attire while the rest of the school will wear their Feinstein sweatshirts. Thus, you might hear conflicting reports from other students. However, our class was told to wear our red, white, and blue since we we decided that theme for Mr. Cateon's hair. If your student does not have PATRIOTS or Red, White, and Blue attire, please have him/her wear their Feinstein sweatshirt so he/she does not feel left out. Mr. Cateon has informed me that Willett has ordered more sweatshirts for new students only. We will have GYM on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please have students wear sneakers. Technology will be on Thursday. There is NO SCHOOL on Friday. Watch for LOTS of pictures on Wednesday.... ;) Have a great short week, Mrs. Bower They are getting so big!
Thursday will be a wear green spirit day! Wednesday, March 23 is a Feinstein sweatshirt day! How is everyone doing with the time change? Hopefully better than Carly! ;)
As many of you probably heard, we received caterpillars last week. Students have already enjoyed watching them grow and change in the short period of time we have had them. I can't wait to see what they look like tomorrow! We have been observing them each day and writing about what they look how and how they are growing. Students love it! Our caterpillar friends go perfectly with our story this week titled I'm a Caterpillar. With this story, and our classroom caterpillars, we will learn all about a caterpillar's life cycle. While reading this story we will focus on r-controlled er, ir, and ur as well as the contractions 's, 've, 're. We will also look at nonfiction's text structure to help us identify other texts that are nonfiction. During Math this week we will take our unit 6 assessments on Monday and Tuesday, and then start Unit 7 on Wednedsay. Unit 7 is all about Subtraction Fact Strategies and Attributes of Shapes. Students are still struggling with addition and subtraction fluency, so I am excited to focus some more time on that in this unit. I am out Thursday and Friday of this week for CS-STEM Integration and Collaboration March Meetings. I have already informed the students so that they are aware that I will be out those two days. There will be a substitute teacher in the classroom for those days. I will be submitting the Scholastic Book Order Monday around 11am. If you would like to place an order, please do so before then. Our Specials Schedule: Monday - Gym Tuesday - Gym Wednesday - Technology Thursday - Music Friday - Art There is NO SCHOOL on Friday, March 25th! Have a great week, Kelsey Bower |
