I don't think we can call them seeds anymore....

Today students enjoyed exploring how light behaves with different types of materials. We used flashlights to see if the light would pass through the object, be blocked, reflect/redirect, or only some light would pass through. Students did a great job working together and recording their answers!
Thank you so much to Pat the Patriot for coming to Willett to assist with our Pennies for Patients kick off! Students absolutely loved having him take over as their teacher as well! :)
Happy Monday,
This week will be our last homework packet of first grade! Students will continue to receive reading logs for the month of May; however, this will be the last Monday a homework packet will be coming home! Please be sure to turn your Screen Free Fundraisers in by May 12th. Per Mr. Cateon's email: All checks should be made out to the Willett PTO, and of course cash is accepted. If you need a way to pay by credit card, we have that too, the link is on the Facebook page (or contact Rose Brown at [email protected]). We need all forms by FRIDAY, MAY 12. This week we will be reading Henry and Mudge and Mrs. Hopper's House. With this story we will be focusing on the skills of: suffixes -ly, -ful and the vowels in moon. Students will discuss cause/effect and how to preview a story. Last week we started planting! We "planted" bean seeds in a plastic bag so we can watch how they grow. We also planted pumpkins and cucumbers in our classroom. Once these start to grow students will be able to either: plant them in the Willett Garden or take them home to plant at home. We will continue to discuss plant parts and the life cycle of plants this week. Be sure to keep checking our website to see the fun activities! Those who would like to volunteer for Field Day should return the green form that was sent home before vacation. If you have lost your form you can contact Mr. Silver at [email protected] for more information. CORI forms must be completed before Field Day to be able to volunteer! This is a fun outdoor activity for students and is able to be so much fun with the help of volunteers! If you are able to volunteer an hour or so, Mr. Silver and the students will appreciate it! First grade will be outside from 12:30-2:30 on June 2nd for Field Day. :) Please be sure students are returning their library books weekly. We have Library every Thursday. We had a lot of students receive bills to pay for their books that are well overdue. Library ends soon so that inventory can be done before the end of the year. Lost books must be paid for before the last day of school. Also, we have gym twice a week. Gym is on Thursdays and Fridays. Students must wear appropriate shoes (i.e. sneakers) for gym class. As the weather is getting nicer and the sun stronger, please be sure to apply sunscreen on before school and especially for field day! Have a great week, Mrs. Bower Congratulations to Steve and Shanel for being GOLDEN TICKET WINNERS! Both Steve and Shanel were nominated by Willett Staff members before always showing the Willett Way and being excellent role models. Great job, Steve and Shanel. I am SO proud of you!!!
