A few parents asked some great questions today. Many asked about homework. First grade does not start homework until October so that students can get used to our classroom routines before adding an extra element to the list. Similarly, classroom volunteers do not start until mid to late October. However, I will be looking for volunteers - especially during the morning (i.e. 8:45-9:15) to work on sight words and phonics skills with small groups. :)
Willett's schedule is based on a rotating A-E schedule. Today was Day A. Our specials are the following:
Tomorrow we will visit Mrs. Hudson for Music.
In first grade we only have one snack. It is a morning snack. Students are allowed to bring two snacks in for that one snack break, but we do not have a snack in the afternoon. This is always a big adjustment for incoming first graders!
We do not have a bathroom in our classroom... another adjustment! However, for the month of September we take MANY bathroom breaks and students are able to use it as needed. The bathroom is a short walk down the hall from our classroom.
Many notices went home today. Some of them need to be returned. I know it is overwhelming. Please try to get these forms back by the end of the week. They are extremely important, I promise! :)
Please discuss how your student is going home/dismissal. You will notice we tied a green card to your child's backpack. This is so that teachers are able to assist with getting your child to where he/she needs to be at the end of the day. We ask that these stay on backpacks until the third week of school.
Tomorrow our student teacher will begin! :)
Thank you to all the families who sent in supplies for the classroom! I truly appreciate it! :)
I hope everyone has a great night!
