This week is another busy one!
We will read the story The Big Blue Ox, which is all about a helpful blue ox. Through this story we will discuss the phonics skills of short o and plural s. We will also talk about the genre of Animal Fantasy. Students will continue to discuss the characters and setting of a story as well. Our spelling words will include the short o sound, so please be sure to practice with your student! Spelling words will be included with tomorrow's homework packet.
In Math we will continue to decompose numbers within 10 and turn around facts. Students will complete Explorations on Tuesday that will help them with their Open Response on Wednesday. Students will have to come up with all of the combinations of 10 this week! Something we have been working hard on-- especially with Ms. D!
Homework packets go home tomorrow. I will also send home a yellow sheet that describes the homework packets that will be coming home weekly. Please be sure to work with your first grader with his/her homework. It is great practice to develop a routine of when homework is done so that students know they are expected to complete the assignment. Please know that we do not expect your student to finish the entire packet in one night. The way it is designed is so that students can work on one page a night, two if they know they cannot work on a page during the week due to prior commitments (sports, piano, CCD, etc).
Friday is a half day. A note went home in students' folders about Monster Hair Day for that Friday. Please review it. There were also many other important notices that went home. Please check your student's folder nightly! If you would like your child to participate in BOKS, be sure to return that form ASAP!
Tomorrow our Special is Gym! Please remember to send students in with sneakers.
I try to update the website often with pictures from our day. I hope you have had a chance to check it out! Remember you can always find our spelling words on the SpellingCity site that I created for our class.
Have a great week!
