I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Mr. Bower and I enjoyed going to the Patriots game today while Carly played with her Auntie and Grammy! It was a perfect day for football… and seeing Brady’s 400thtouchdown pass!
Tomorrow students will be making an estimate on the weight of a very large pumpkin that grew right outside out classroom in the Willett Garden. The classroom that makes the closest estimate on the pumpkin’s weight will get to keep it for the classroom! Very exciting!
Tomorrow we also have gym. Please be sure to send your student in wearing sneakers. It is supposed to be warm out again tomorrow so please also send students in with a water bottle.
Friday, October 2nd is the Willett Family BBQ. Families are encouraged to join their first grade student at 11:25 (lunch will end at 11:50). Bring a blanket to sit on and enjoy lunch with your student! J
This week we will be reading a story titled, Pig in a Wig. It is a story about a silly pig who gets sick (a bellyache) from eating too much. He also does a jig! Can you tell we will be working on short i words? We will also be focusing on words with final x (fix, mix, six). As we read our story, we will discuss Realism and Fantasy as the genre of the story is fantasy. Our spelling list can be found here: http://www.spellingcity.com/view-spelling-list.html?listId=25503474
In Math this week we will take our Unit 1 Assessment on Tuesday and Wednesday. We will also talk about “turn-around” facts ( 2+3=5 3+2=5). We will be sending home homework this week to assist students with tally marks. This Home Link will be sent home tomorrow.
In writing we will be writing about our favorite fall activity using complete sentences. We will brainstorm and illustrate our writing before we begin!
Friday was our first Library class. Mrs. Sullivan read us a story about Mr. Wiggles and the proper use of the Library - treat book kindly, return books in the same condition you took it out, keep books safe from pets, siblings, and the weather, etc. It was exciting being in the wonderful Willett Library! We will have Library from 10:30-10:50 every Friday, however we will not have it on half days.
Homework Packets will begin next Monday (October 5). Homework packets will be sent home Monday and due back Friday (unless indicated otherwise).
Our next Scholastic Reading Club Book Order is due back on October 1st. This book order also has a lot of great literature under $5! Part of our homework packet includes a nightly reading log so having books students are interested in at home is vital for students! As mentioned before, the best way to order books is online through the website: www.scholastic.com/readingclub. Our unique code is GZV3K. Families ordered over $200 in books in the previous order, which is absolutely amazing! Encouraging reading at home is encouraging success in the classroom!
I hope everyone has a great week!
:)
