The weekends seem to fly by so quickly lately! We enjoyed Carly’s first trip to the Providence Children’s Museum! She had so much fun – especially in the water room! Did you know with those Feinstein cards your child got last month your child +1 adult gets into the Providence Children’s Museum for free? How awesome is that? It is perfect for a rainy (or snowy) day!
Now on to our week…
- Gym is on Wednesday! Please be sure to send your student in wearing sneakers.
- Friday is a half day. School begins at 8:45 (doors open at 8:30) and ends at 12:30. If your student’s dismissal procedure is changing, please send me in a note so I can also notify the office.
- Friday will be a mismatch spirit day (maybe even throw some Patriots attire into the mix). Students can dress wacky for $1, which will be donated to help provide more technology to Willett. Wahoo!
- Homework Packets will be due on Friday. Please work with your child on the homework packet. Homework is a great way to help reinforce the skills and concepts we are learning in school. Students should be reading 20 minutes a night. Please push to have your child do most of the reading. Students need to work on building their oral reading fluency.
- Please return your library book on or before Friday! We did a great job last Friday. Almost EVERYONE was able to take a book out! Mrs. Sullivan was so impressed with how responsible these students were!
- There is no school on Monday, January 18th for Martin Luther King Day!
- For the next couple of weeks we will be completing our District Common Assessments. These assessments include oral reading fluency, reading comprehension, as well as narrative writing. ELA DCA’s end on January 29th. Our Math DCA will be in February.
We will be reading Life in the Forest. This story continues our conversation about communities by discussing how animals live and work together. We will focus on Long u and long e with King Ed (cute, these, etc.) as well as the ending –ed (called). We will discuss what’s the author’s purpose for writing this story, as well as other stories throughout the week.
In Math we will continue to discuss Place Value using Base-10 blocks, but we will also add coins into our discussion. Students will practice exchanging pennies for dimes while discussing the ones and tens place. We will also introduce the greater than and less than sign while reviewing what the equal sign means. You can give your child some pennies and dimes at home and ask them how to make 12 cents using only three coins… or to exchange ten pennies for a dime, etc.
We will continue to work on strengthening our narrative writing by adding important details that are relevant to the topic.
This week we will focus on learning all about Martin Luther King and how important he was (and still is) to our world today. Please continue this conversation at home as well!
I hope everyone has a wonderful week.
GO PATS!
